Barrett is the top dog at First State Building & Design. His leadership has turned the company into one of the area’s leading residential remodeling and renovation firms.
As President, Barrett oversees three teams of carpenters, installers and designers. He is also on greeting duty at the showroom on 258 Wilmington Pike, making sure he says hello to everyone who crosses the threshold.
Barrett’s hobbies include chasing squirrels, meeting new people and eating everything in sight.
Lead Interior Designer
Kalee has been with First State Building & Design since November of 2019. As FSBD’s lead interior designer, and a National Kitchen and Bath Association member, Kalee is the point person for all kitchen and bath remodeling projects. Operations Manager and Interior Design Project Coordinator
Nancy has been involved in design and manufacturing for more than two decades, from working in fashion to managing operations, interior design, and remodels. As First State’s Operations Manager and Interior Design Project Coordinator, she is in charge of overseeing all day-to-day office activities within all departments including marketing, sales, production, customer service and our home renovation projects.
After growing up in Bethlehem, PA, Nancy graduated from Jefferson University (previously known as Philadelphia College of Textiles & Sciences) with a degree in Fashion Design & Merchandising. Her passion for design led to a career first in fashion before expanding into construction, home remodeling and interior design.
Nancy, whose Italian name is Annunziata, is married to her husband Nick and has two sons Nicholas and Alexander. “I enjoy having the opportunity to be part of a team with a tremendous amount of potential for continued growth and success,” says Nancy. When not watching home improvement shows or browsing design magazines, Nancy enjoys spending time with family and friends with a great meal and a good competitive board game.
Shyla joined the FSBD team in January 2021. As our former Showroom Manager, Shyla had always assisted with marketing but with her background in social media and graphic design, she quickly took over the entire department. Her days consist of running all over our social media pages and websites, designing all of our catalogs, brochures, and flyers, planning and running our events, and finding new avenues to better our marketing strategy. When not at work, you can find Shyla on a hiking trail, on the volleyball court, or in an art class. Her favorite activities include creating art, attending concerts, traveling, spending time outside, and playing volleyball. She has been playing for over 10 years and takes her team’s motto “sacrifice your body for the point” very seriously. “I am honored to join a team of such kindhearted people, who respect and care about their customers more than anything in the world. It truly is a wonderful thing to find an employer that treats their clients and employees like family.”
Chelsea joined the FSBD team in early 2022. She loves interacting with new people everyday, and helping our clients achieve their exterior design dreams. Chelsea attended Widener University where she studied Hospitality Management and is currently living in North Wilmington with her husband, their 3 children, and their 2 Heeler puppies. When Chelsea is not at work, she loves cooking, making crafts, tap dancing, and spending time with her family.
With 25 years of construction sales, management and hands-on experience Rand is excited to join the FSBD family. He is a lifelong resident of Chester County PA and has done everything from handyman work to building million-dollar homes in the area. Rand will be working with the FSBD roofing and siding division as well as the outdoor spaces division. He graduated from the University of Delaware in ‘97 with a BA in Educational Studies and strangely enough has been in construction ever since! Rand has an amazing wife, son and daughter and lives on a horse farm and loves dogs. When he is not at work, he enjoys watching his son play ice hockey and his daughter play lacrosse.

Sales Manager – Fencing
Charlie (a.k.a. CJ), is a native of Newark DE. He comes to FSBD with 22 years of experience in project management having worked with Comcast and other construction companies. It was in 2018 though when he developed a passion for outdoor projects and began expanding his knowledge in deck construction and working in sales focused on selling decks. Fully committed to pursue his passion, he also became Azek certified in 2020.
CJ loves the entire deck sales process from sitting down with the customer, reviewing their project, going over product and laying out the construction process. “Maintaining constant communication with customers, always bringing a positive professional attitude and keeping up with product knowledge is the wind behind my sail. This is my idea of a great time.” And now, he’s looking forward to contributing to the success of the company by generating even more sales!
CJ is married to Nicole, has 2 younger stepchildren, 2 older children and has a dog named Tucker. In his spare time, he enjoys offshore and surf fishing. He also has a passion for American History and politics, played Baseball at a Semi-Pro level, but would rather watch Football and supports all Philadelphia sports teams.
Matt is our newest Production Coordinator as of the summer of 2021. He loves working in our team driven atmosphere, as well as helping out the clients directly, solving their problems and offering suggestions to relieve their predicament. Matt is very excited to grow within the company as well as watch the company itself grow over time. Previous to FSBD, Matt worked for Shone Lumber, giving him the proper knowledge he needs for his position. He was born and raised in Delaware, currently residing in Middletown, DE. In his early life, Matt attended Caesar Rodney for high school, before moving on to Wilmington University to complete his Bachelor’s & Master’s in Business. When not at work, Matt enjoys working out, playing softball, and spending time with his wife and their 4 children.
Abigail “Abby” joined the FSBD team in early 2022. One of the many things Abby loves about FSBD is working with people who care deeply about helping clients bring their visions and dreams into fruition. Abby attended Penn State University where she studied Business, Arts & Sciences, and Recreational Management, and currently resides in Glen Mills, PA. When Abby is not at work, you can find her fishing, traveling, rock climbing, and spending time outdoors.
Pete has more than four decades of experience in residential and commercial renovation work. He was part of the 82nd Airborne in the United States Army, a division specializing in parachute assault operations. After leaving the Army, he began his career in construction in 1976. Pete joined First State Building & Design from a well-known construction company in Wilmington, Delaware.
Born in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, Pete currently lives in Clayton, Delaware with his wife of 32 years. They have three daughters and five grandchildren. In his spare time, Pete enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.
Field Foreman/ Lead Carpenter
Frank is another new addition to the FSBD crew, starting in April of 2020. He enjoys the freedom of being able to show his talent as a craftsman and loves to make customers happy at the end of the day. Before joining the FSBD team, Frank worked in Government and Military construction. He was born in Idaho and raised all around the country! He now lives in Pennsylvania after graduating from Lebanon High School and attending trade schools throughout his career where he studied drafting, blueprint reading, structural engineering and general construction. Frank is excited to be with First State Building, and can’t wait to gain friendship with customers and coworkers!
Tom is one of First State’s Lead Carpenters, joining the team in October of 2020. He really enjoys creating new spaces for customers and has a history of working in carpentry. Before joining the FSBD team Tom worked for Allen Carpentry, and is originally from Reading PA where he still resides, with his first daughter on the way! He graduated from Penn State University where he studied Finance and enjoys cooking, hiking and playing tennis. When asked about getting ready to start with First State Building Tom said he is eager and excited to work with our team and future customers!
For years, Ron was a self-employed sub-contractor and has now joined our FSBD team to lead our crew. In joining FSBD, he looks forward to continuing to enjoy a sense of accomplishment, the gratification of completing a successful quality project and providing his quality craftsmanship to all the work that he does. Ron is married to his “best friend” Joann, has 2 stepchildren, 4 grandchildren and 2 cats to round out the family tribe. When not working, he enjoys building furniture, sign making, travel, fishing and hunting.
David joined our FSBD team as a lead carpenter. He takes great pride in his work and his favorite part of the building process is the personal satisfaction he gets when he knows he built a great structure. David attended Delaware County Community College where he studied Building Trades and has been working in carpentry ever since. He currently resides in West Grove, Pa with his wife, his 3 kids, and his 4 dogs. His favorite thing to do when he is not at work is spend time with his family.
Kyle joined the FSBD team in 2021 as a carpenter. With 8 years of carpentry experience, Kyle is looking forward to perfecting the skills he has now and learning from the other FSBD carpenters. He has spent the last 6 years working as a contractor for aviation companies. Kyle was born and raised in New Jersey, and still resides there to this day with his wife and their puppy. He attended the University of Phoenix, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. When Kyle is not at work, he enjoys sports, fishing, hunting, and exercising.
Steve and his brother Mike both joined First State Building & Design as Carpenter Apprentices. “I’m working towards becoming Master Carpenter, “ says Steve. “Every day is different and I learn something new.”
Steve graduated from Garnet Valley High School and lives in Newport, Delaware. He has two dogs, Reno and Rave. When he’s not spending time with his family, he works out at the gym with friends.
John is one of First State Building’s new carpenter apprentices. His favorite part about working in this field, in addition to being hands on and a fixer of things, is seeing the clients satisfaction and love for the finished product of his work. Before joining the team at First State John worked with a smaller company that did major and minor home repairs. He lives in Philadelphia but is originally from Levittown, PA where he attended school for aviation maintenance. Although, it wasn’t until after he graduated that he realized working with his grandfather, that he loves remodeling homes. John lives at home with his fiancé of 6 years, two daughters, and his chihuahua mix, Jasper, and is excited to be married in 2021! In his spare time he loves to spend time with his family, go on adventures with his fiancé, and play games with his daughters. Welcome to First State Building, John!
